Since 1974, American citizens have been protected from dangerous items in their homes by federal law. Congress prescribed a system whereby if a manufacturer designed a dangerous product, they MUST recall all those items and FIX THEM FOR FREE! The problem in the law is that most often it's up to the consumer, to find out whether appliances are potential fire or safety hazards! There is a database designed and managed by the government, but you would have to wade through 210 MILLION recalled items to find out if a dishwasher or air conditioner is a hazard to your family.
Nearly 10% of the homes submitted to Residental Warranty Services have a recall. There is a fairly good chance you either have one or will in the future, so a RecallChek report with lifetime Recall Protection is a good idea for anyone who owns a home. The better question is probably what are the consequences of having a recalled appliance in your home?
There are two potential consequences: a. A fire. It could be a small one, perhaps a small kitchen fire. It could be a whole loss. Either way it is at the very minimum an inconvenience and a homeowner's insurance deductible. b. Mechanical failure. This is definitely the more likely consequence, and it happens all the time! Your appliance repair person doesn't know the relay they are replacing over heated because it was not engineered properly. They don't know it's recalled. With RecallChek you get the FREE repair before the premature mechanical failure.
During the inspection process, the inspector will record the make and model numbers of major, built in appliances for the kitchen and HVAC systems, assuming the manufacturer's plate is visible. The appliance data for your property is submitted to RecallChek.
At RecallChek Headquarters, your manufacturers and model numbers are computer matched against MILLIONS of recalls using our Model Number Algorithm (MNA).
RecallChek will then hand-check the report, to eliminate wrong numbers from worn plates and ID cards, and other problems.
In the event of a potential recall, Recall sends a report including:
1. the nature of the recall,
2. where the product was sold,
3. how to remedy the defect, and
4. how to get the item repaired / replaced in most cases - absolutely FREE!
This service is intended to provide homeowners with valuable information on how to receive FREE repairs from manufacturers in the event a recalled appliance is found. This service is not meant to be used in the Removal Of Contingency / negotiation process. This is not a warranty program. It also does not guarantee an appliance will function properly or is installed according to manufacturer's guidance.
RecallTrak provides you, the client, with peace of mind knowing that your home is free of fire hazards that may be caused by a recalled appliance. Included with your home inspection is a free membership to RecallTrak for life.
